Ethiopia Yrgacheffe (Decaf)
Cup Characteristics: Medium bodied with a tart acidity, bright lemon and strong floral aroma with a syrupy consistency.
OCFCU (Oromia Coffee Farmers Coop Union) is the largest Fair Trade producer in Ethiopia, was founded in 1999 when small co-ops in Southwestern Ethiopia came together with the goal of exporting their coffee directly to the specialty market. Women hold prominent positions throughout the organization and all six varieties of award winning coffee are organic and bird-friendly.
The Fair Trade price has enabled the Oromia to establish various social and productive programs, including the building of four new schools with four more underway, the hiring of sustainable farming consultants to preserve the farmers land and improve quality, the purchasing of washing stations, diversifying crop rotations with banana and citrus, and even providing low-interest loans
to its members, alleviating dependence on outside financing
